great crested grebe in nepal

Description:
The Great Crested Grebe is a good looking waterbird found in Eurasia. They look distinct due to inclined soft feather or arrangement of feathers above head. They have brown body with mixture of black, white, orange, grey colours. Their chicks have black and white in their head which they loose in their adulthood. These birds lives in vegetated areas of lakes, reservoirs. Their life span is around 11 years. These birds breeds on fresh water from April to September when a female one lays a clutch sized of two or more eggs. They can swim as well as dive in water from early stage of their life. These birds feeds mainly on fish, small aquatic animals, insects and small frogs. They are found in Pokhara of Nepal.

Weight: 0.9 to 1.5 kg
Color: brown body with mixture of black, white, orange, grey colours
Length: 46–51 cms
