great tit in nepal

Description:
Great tit are small birds with white head, black cap, white cheeks, grey blue legs, black bill and yellow breast with black stripe on the belly. The black stripe is narrower in case of female tit and the feathers of male is brighter else they both look similar. These birds nest in holes of tree or wall made up of twigs, stems, leaves, grass etc in a cup shape. They also live in manmade nest boxes of woodland, parks, farmland, gardens and towns. These sparrow sized birds feed on worms, seeds, cockroaches, grasshoppers, crickets, bugs, flies, beetles, bees, wasps, snails, woodlice, caterpillars, spiders etc. during breeding season female birds lays 7-9 eggs in a clutch. These birds have lifespan of around 3 years. They are seen in Bardia of Nepal.

Description:
Ospreys are large hawks living near by the sources of water like rivers, ponds, reservoirs, in nests made up of sticks, branches and grasses on poles, trees. Ospreys have brown on upper parts of body, white belly with dark patch at wrists, yellow eyes, dark bill and white feet, and long legs. Beside female ospreys are slightly larger than males and have darker patches on neck, both gender of this bird look similar. Live fish are their prime food but they also prey birds, snakes, squirrels, small alligators. Ospreys hover over water and dives into it with feet first to grab a fish and fly back to their nest. Ospreys have interesting fact about their toe which can be faced forward or backward which helps them to turn the fish to face forward while transporting it to their nest. Another interesting thing is to see, osprey shaking off water after a dive, when it comes out of water they flap their wings faster to dry off. Their breeding begins in April or May when female bird lays 2-4 eggs in a clutch. Ospreys can live for 15 to 20 years. They are seen in Karnali River of Nepal.

purple heron in nepal

Description:
The Purple Heron is a large migratory bird found across Europe, Southern Asia and Africa. They have purple brown feathers, grey wings, reddish brown breast, yellow bill, black belly, yellow eyes also a black forehead and crown. They have long neck which forms like S shape during flight. These birds build their nest with sticks, twigs and reeds in bushes and trees up to 25 meters from the ground nearby lakes, rivers. Purple herons eat mostly fish, amphibians, small birds, mammals, reptiles, insects, invertebrates which they prey mostly in night to early morning. During breeding season the purple herons usually lay 4-5 eggs in a clutch. Their breeding season falls from April to May. They can live for around 20 years. They are seen in Chitwan of Nepal.

spotted dove in nepal

Description:
Spotted Doves are the most common dove seen in open areas and are similar to common pigeons. Both genders of this birds look similar. These birds have black bill, red feet, brown upper parts and black patch with fine white spots around neck. Spotted doves lives in gardens, parks, cultivated areas, agricultural land where they feed on insects,corn, wheat, fruits and seeds. They usually build nests at about 3 meters or higher from ground on small trees branches or bushes with twigs, grasses and roots. These birds display their passion to attract opposite sex by moving their throats and bowing. Female dove lays 1-2 white eggs which are incubated by parents. During breeding season which falls on summer, special glands present in the crops of both males and females produce milky substance for its offspring. They live for around 5-9 years. They are seen in Kathmandu of Nepal.

Description:
The Asian Openbill or Asian Openbill Stork are carnivorous large waders living nearby swamps,freshwater, fields, wetlands, rivers, flooded areas living in huge group. These long legged birds have grey feather which turns into white during breding season which occurs July to September. Their breeding season varies from one place to other. They have black feathers on head and tail parts and brown eyes. Both genders of this birds look similar although males can be slightly larger. These birds feed on water snakes, frogs, large insects, freshwater snails, Apple Snails, rice-fields and marshes in freshwater. Female bird lays 2 to 4 white eggs in a clutch during breeding season.They build their nest on trees wtih barks, sticks, leaves. They are seen in Chitwan of Nepal.

bronze winged jacana in nepal

Description:
Bronze winged jacana are the waders with huge feet and claws which helps them to walk on floating vegetation in the lakes. These birds are found in tropical region and south east Asian countries. They have brown wings, red tail, white eyestripe, yellow bill, grey legs. These birds build their nest on water or floating leaves with weed stems submerged partially. Females of this birds are larger than the males. The bronze winged jacana birds feed on insects, seeds, roots, aquatic plants, small invertebrates found over water. During breeding season female jacan lays four black marked brown eggs in its floating nest. As these birds can walk on water, they are also known as leaf walker. They are seen in Koshi Tappu of Nepal.

indian pond heron in nepal

Description:
Indian pond heron are small herons with short neck, thick bill, brown back and very soft feathers found across Indian subcontinent in Bangladesh, India, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Myanmar and Nepal and widely spread all around the world. Their breeding season falls between May to September when female bird lays eggs a clutch of eggs varying from 3 eggs to 5 eggs. These birds build nest in trees or shrubs between 2 and 16 meter above ground with sticks, plant left over, barks etc. These herons feed on insects, fish, frogs, crabs, aquatic insects, grasshoppers, crickets, ants and baby turtles. This herons live nearby fresh water resources like rivers, lakes, streams and also paddy fields. They are found in Koshi Tappu of Nepal.
