spotted dove in nepal

Description:
Spotted Doves are the most common dove seen in open areas and are similar to common pigeons. Both genders of this birds look similar. These birds have black bill, red feet, brown upper parts and black patch with fine white spots around neck. Spotted doves lives in gardens, parks, cultivated areas, agricultural land where they feed on insects,corn, wheat, fruits and seeds. They usually build nests at about 3 meters or higher from ground on small trees branches or bushes with twigs, grasses and roots. These birds display their passion to attract opposite sex by moving their throats and bowing. Female dove lays 1-2 white eggs which are incubated by parents. During breeding season which falls on summer, special glands present in the crops of both males and females produce milky substance for its offspring. They live for around 5-9 years. They are seen in Kathmandu of Nepal.
